This week marks Learning Disability Week (16–22 June 2025) — an important time centred around the theme: “Do you see me?”. It asks us to pause, step beyond assumptions, and truly see, hear, and value people with learning disabilities by recognising their talents, perspectives, and voices.

🎯 What Do You See Me? Really Means

This theme invites each of us — families, friends, employers, educators, and service providers — to reflect on whether we genuinely see individuals as full human beings, not just through the lens of a diagnosis. It’s about making sure that people with learning disabilities are valued, included, and respected in everything from education and employment to health, housing, and society .

🌟 Why It Matters to NeuroEmpowered

At NeuroEmpowered, our work often intersects with learning disabilities and other neurotypes—because many of our community members experience both. And when these identities overlap, people can face deep invisibility: being overlooked, misunderstood, or excluded — even within communities that claim to support them.

As Mencap reminds us, far too often people with learning disabilities are dismissed, ignored, or missing from conversations — yet their voices matter, their experiences matter, their rights matter.

That’s why our mission is to offer accessible, practical, and empowering resources that centre lived experience—free from judgment, and always with neurodivergent insight.

🌱 How We’re Taking Action

During Learning Disability Week, here’s what we’re doing:

  • Re-sharing accessible guides and tools co-created by neurodivergent and learning-disabled folks, so people can find support, community, and clarity.

  • Welcoming story-sharing—anonymously or credited—to highlight real voices and build understanding.

  • Amplifying allyship with education, workplaces, and services: pushing them to embed inclusive communication, accommodations, and genuine listening.

In a world that too often says “normal first,” we choose neuro-affirming first.

📣 How You Can Get Involved

  1. Check your language. When someone says “Do you see me?”, it’s not just about talking about them—it’s about truly including them.

  2. Share stories. If you have a learning disability, please share your experiences with us. Let us hear your experience.

  3. Download and share easy‑read or plain-language resources—from NeuroEmpowered or Mencap—on social media using #LearningDisabilityWeek #DoYouSeeMe.

  4. Tell your organisation. Schools, workplaces, councils — demand they embed accessible tools, quiet spaces, and genuine acceptance. Hft have shared a great template to use to write to your MP which can be found by clicking here.

💛 Invitation

This week, let’s build a world where people with learning disabilities are:

  • Seen, not just glanced at.

  • Heard, not just tolerated.

  • Valued, not just included.

When we truly see each other, we change the world.

With care - The NeuroEmpowered Team
